Today we are going to be doing a Nanit Smart Baby Monitor review, one of the coolest and greatest baby monitors, because you know as parents with new babies, we are trying to figure out how to get our babies to have a sound sleep.
The Nanit Smart baby monitor claims to not only monitor your baby but it has sleep tracking algorithms that classify, track and measure the sleep patterns that your baby has to help you really nail sleep training.
So it’s not just keeping an eye on your baby, it is helping you sleep train.
It is an HD quality video monitor that you can check on your baby from anywhere in the world using your phone or your tablet.
I remember the days when choosing a baby monitor was an easy task as all you had were them walkie talkie types that only required you to hear what baby was doing.
Loud and low, and keeping the right distance were the only things to worry about and that is what monitors like the Motorola Digital baby monitor did.
These days, there is the Samsung Bright View that went and did HD videos.
Fast forward to now and we have the Nanit baby monitor which has taken the biggest leap in baby monitors.
With a somewhat affordable price, will this be the baby monitor of all monitors or will this be nothing but hype?
Let’s dig in and see what all the fuss is really about.

Nanit Smart Baby Monitor Review
Name: Nanit
Website: www.nanit.com
Direct site: $379m (comes with insight)
Cheapest place to buy without insight: Amazon.com for $279
Overall Rating: 4.9/5 stars
With all the baby monitors being in the over $100 price range, this is by far the best bank for your buck baby monitor on the market.
What you find in other monitors can be found with the Nanit but let me show you other key players that make this such a one of a kind product.
Some Important Features of the Nanit Smart Baby Monitor
First I am most impressed with its personalized sleep guru which is really amazing but the quality of the video and the audio is what really gets me.
It features the minute app which syncs up with your phone and it has that HD video that goes straight to your phone.
The audio is also really impressive, so every gurgle that it has you could hear straight on the app and it has a little button where you can turn it on or off.
So that is really encouraging that any little sound can be heard right from your phone.
Setting Up the Nanit is a Breeze
The setup with the Nanit app is pretty seamless when you get the packaging you can download the minute app as I said it goes straight to your phone and then they have videos that show you exactly how to put it all together.
The Wi-Fi setup was really simple and when you have to like sync your home Wifi through their Wifi, the Nanit baby monitor makes it a little bit simpler in the sense that you just have to put your home Wi-Fi password in and you will immediately be connected.
Your phone connects to the Nanit with Bluetooth which is really cool because then you can check on your baby even when you are away from your home without Wifi.
I really appreciate that because that means that this baby monitor can then grow with your baby.
I guess.
Some of the Stuff I Liked
It has a bird’s-eye view over the crib but it can actually be detached from that and you can purchase a multi stand so that it can be used as a nursery monitor
Then that can even be used as a nanny cam because while you are away from your house you can still check in on what that feed is showing you so that is also pretty neat.
There is an additional service you can purchase called insights that help you with the analytics and sleep tracking and one of the coolest parts about it is that it can show you a summary and the highlight reel of the different activities that happen during the night.
These videos are protected on a secure server as they are encrypted.
With other Wi-Fi monitors, you might find that you have an IP address but not with the Nanit baby monitor which ensures that your videos are safe and just for your view.
So it is pretty insane aside from the fact that it is kind of cool just to see how the night went and to see it from that bird’s-eye view that’s kind of neat.
It is really helpful in a sense that you can see as I said the exact moment that your baby falls asleep and the exact moment that the baby wakes up.
They have an algorithm that talks about sleep efficiency so as you see they have lots of equations and lots of thought going into the wellness and the great patterns at your baby’s room like things that you might not know on your own.
So it is pretty interesting then as you use the Nanit baby monitor more and more it’s not just one night you have several nights, it will tell you trends over time like that really interesting stuff.
The Nanit also comes with a wall mount or a floor stand, which can easily be taken off the wall-mount if you need to transfer it to either one of those options.
The app can be downloaded for iPhone or Android and it allows for live streaming and is also equipped with smart sound technology.
So if you are using an app or on a call, the app will allow you to hear any sounds that is made and I’m sure that is something you can really find quite helpful.
This monitor also comes with an LED light, so you can also say that you just bought a really expensive lamp.
The Cons
The notifications are kind of an issue; as the camera is syncing to the app on your phone.
In order for you to see the baby, obviously you have to have the app open, if you close the app it will send you notifications that say there is movement around the crib or there is a sound detected things like that but it is a little bit too sensitive.
So for example if the light changed a little bit too fast in the room, it would say movement detected because the audio is really sensitive.
This is awesome but then you might be left with a lot of false notifications and/or kind of ignoring the notifications will make you feel a little worried..
There is also no two-way audio which is a feature that sometimes people look for in a monitor.
So although you are safe with the wifi, this is actually a known security hole and it is not going to be found on the Nanit baby monitor.
The Price
The Nanit baby monitor costs $299 for the camera and the wall stand while the multi-stand is $45.
The subscription Nanit insights service is $100 a year for you to keep 30 days of video, so all those snippets and the history of those videos on your phone will be kept for 30 days.
But if you want to subscribe to the unlimited service, it is $300 a year and all your videos will be stored on a cloud.
So keep in mind that the Nanit insights is a paid service and does not include the camera and the tangible accessories.
Luckily though you can see if it is a good fit for your family because you can try the Nanit for 30 days as they do offer a money back guarantee.
The Nanit baby monitor is beautifully designed and it is super easy to assemble with a lot of other cool features and I think it is worth the price.

Final Verdict: Great Buy
I am a personal fan of the Nanit Smart Baby Monitor and I recommend this to anyone looking for a solid product.
If you are in the market for a baby monitor and you have the money, this is definitely the way to go.
The $100 for insights might not be one I recommend but it is also there if you want that service.
Other than that, I hope this Nanit Smart Baby Monitor review has been of great use for you and hopefully you can make a better buying decision now.
So you tell me, is the Nanit really worth the hefty price tag?
