5 of The Best Upright Vacuum Cleaners That You Can Actually Afford

By John

best-upright-vacuum-cleanersThrough all the years that I’ve seen vacuum cleaners on TV, I still don’t get how they can always come up with “new blah blah blah technology” that makes this better than last week’s model.

Well I actually do know why but I still don’t get how I give into those crazy infomercials!

I guess you just have to appreciate great marketing as it also gives you that new toy feeling when purchasing the next best product.

I’m not even going to lie, I can sit through 5 rounds of the same old infomercial about the same exact vacuum and it’s like I’m still interested in what they have to say.

The last one that I saw was actually the Shark Powered Liftaway Speed and I was impressed with the whole dust not coming back out of the vacuum because well, that is just great.

Now everything you see on TV comes with a price but is it even worth it?

Today I am not going to showcase any as seen on TV stuff but rather some of the best vacuums with a very affordable price.

So if you’re looking for the best upright vacuums that won’t break the bank, this is the list for you.

1.) Bissell 9595A CleanView Bagless Vacuum with OnePass

The first vacuum that we will be looking at today is kind of on the basic side, but that is not to say that it doesn’t have a lot going for it.

I like the Bissell because there are no gimmicks with this unit, you know? The features are all simple but necessary. It’s compact, and lightweight, with powerful suction, and a “one pass,” feature that ensures all your dirt and germs are lifted from your carpet the very first time that you use it.

It’s also bagless, which I like because it makes the system a lot easier to clean. All in all, it’s a really great, user friendly system that pretty much anyone is going to appreciate.

Of course, it also has all the features that you would expect. It bends easily so that you can access hard to reach places, and it has an extendable wand that will further your access to the problem corners of your home.

There really isn’t very much to complain about when it comes to this vacuum, though it is worth noting that it struggles a little bit on hardwood. It’s great on carpet but if you have a lot of other surfaces on your house you might want to look for a different vacuum.

2.) Eufy HomeVac Duo 2-in-1 Cordless Vacuum Cleaner

I like this next vacuum a lot because it has the benefit of being cordless. It’s a cool feature right? Actually, it might be the strongest and weakest component of this vacuum.

On the one hand the cordless aspect of the vacuum is going to give you easier access to the majority of your house.

You don’t need to stop your vacuuming session to find a new outlet. Instead you will be able to venture about your house freely for as long as the charge lasts.

Like I said, the cordless component of the vacuum is also its greatest weakness. As you can imagine, it is going to be a really big drag to need to pause your vacuuming mid-session to charge up the unit.

The battery on this vacuum isn’t great either. You get about twenty minutes of vacuuming per charge (40 on the weaker eco mode) which might be enough to clean a room or two, but probably won’t allow you to finish the entire house.

All that said, the vacuum does have some other strong features. It’s lightweight, compact, easy to clean and it even has a detachable component that will allow you access even more areas of your home.

It’s a good vacuum for a small house or apartment, but if you have a lot of square feet to cover you are probably going to want to look elsewhere.

3.) Shark Navigator Lift-Away Professional NV356E

This is something of a deluxe vacuum. It is more expensive than most of the other models we have featured on this list so far, but it arguably has features that make up for the discrepancy in cost.

The first thing that I noticed about this vacuum is the intuitive design. It’s sleek, and lightweight but it also benefits from a collection cannister that is sizable enough to give you plenty of time before you need to dump it out.

The cannister even has a “lift,” features that allows you to slide it away from the head to reach tighter spaces of your home.

It’s also just a good cannister, boasting the ability to seal ninety nine percent of all germs and bacteria so that the stuff you suck up stays sucked up.

The head itself is also adjustable which means that you are going to be able to get easy access to carpets, tiles, and hard wood.

If you want a lot of power and versatility and you don’t mind paying extra for a higher end vacuum than this is a really great unit to consider.

There isn’t even much to say about the vacuum in way of cons. One thing that I noticed is that it is a little bit prone to clogs so you will have to clean it a little bit more regularly than you otherwise might have.

Otherwise, it is a really great buy!

4.) Hoover Vacuum Cleaner WindTunnel 3 Pro Pet Bagless Corded Upright Vacuum

The Hoover Power Scrub deluxe carpet cleaner is a bulky vacuum but it’s also powerful, and it gets the job done when it comes to cleaning your floors. That’s what you’re really after in a vacuum, isn’t it?

So no, while I am not crazy about the cosmetic appearance of this unit I do greatly appreciate the features that it is able to offer.

This vacuum has a unique three suction design concept that is designed to lift debris from deep within your carpet., or even from hardwoods depending on how you have it set.

It also benefits from a nice feature that I really appreciate called “cord rewind.” I don’t know about you but I really hate it when I have to spend a little of time winding a cord back up. With this vacuum you don’t need to worry about it.

With this vacuum your cord will rewind instantly back into the vacuum with the press of a button.

It’s a good vacuum. If I have any problem at all with it (appearance aside) it is that the unit is also pretty heavy which can make it a little bit difficult to work with. Still, considering the price and other features of this vacuum, a little extra heft may be forgivable.

5.) Dyson Ball Multi Floor 2 Upright Vacuum

The final vacuum that we will be looking at today also happens to be one of my favorites. While the Dyson Ball is expensive, it benefits from a unique design concept, as well as a set of features that make it a great buying opportunity for anyone willing to spend the money.

The first thing that most people will notice about this vacuum is, of course, the unique design. The ball component makes it easy to turn tight corners and make other manipulations that other vacuums just can’t do.

That’s not all though. This vacuum also benefits from powerful suction, a long, 31 foot cord, the ability to handle carpets, tile, and hardwood, and an easy to clean cannister.

The biggest con pertaining to this vacuum is definitely the price, but if you are willing to look past it you won’t be sorry!

So How Did We Decide on What is Best?

First, we always go with vacuums that actually work.

By work, we mean cleans your carpet with some good sucking power.

For the longest time, we had this $40 vacuum that really only had the power that the hose was able to put out, so you can bet that our carpet was just filthy.

After that experience, we had to make sure we put a good amount of money on one that can actually do one heck of a job.

The next factor we considered was the price.

As a parent, we want to make sure we have a nice clean carpet but we also are not looking to make some crazy investment on something that those door to door salesmen tried to sell.

If you noticed, we didn’t put any vacuum cleaners on this list that were over $500 because that does not comply with our standard.

For our last metric, we just picked vacuums that can stand the wear and tear that all of them will go through no matter what household it ends up in.

They will be dragged, they will be dropped, and they will be used a whole lot so you can’t have the best unless this it can actually outlast the competition.

There are other small things we put into consideration but these three factors are what allowed us to put this list together.

Conclusion

If you don’t like any of the vacuum cleaners on this list, I will be putting together my ultimate list of best vacuum cleaners without putting price into consideration.

Now if you are looking to clean your carpet without spending an arm and a leg but still getting a really good job done, any of the ones mentioned on this list will do a great job.

I hope this post has helped you see a better selection of what’s really out there as I’m sure a lot of you are limited when you go to Wally World or your favorite stores.

Until next time, what is your favorite upright vacuum cleaner?
