Weber Genesis 2 Review

Product: Weber Genesis

Manufacturer: Weber

Price: $799 From Amazon.com

Over all Rating: 4/5 Stars

Who This Is For:

The Weber Genesis 2 is a grill that is great for any outdoor cooking enthusiast that doesn’t mind spending a bit of money to support their hobby.

There is no getting around the fact that this isn’t a cheap grill and that might be a huge factor for anyone in the hunt for a new grill.

In fact, it is a whole lot more expensive than most charcoal alternatives, but if you want a nice gas grill that is loaded with plenty of user friendly features than there really is no beating this unit.

Of course, if you do prefer a charcoal grill then this natural isn’t going to be the right product for you as it all depends on how you like to cook your food.

This is something of a luxury grill that starts quickly and has a lot of user friendly features that some people will prefer while others would just as readily do without.

In other words, if you grill a lot, and love premium features, you will get your money’s worth here.

If you don’t, you might want to consider something a little bit simpler and more economical.

How It Works

It’s pretty simple, especially if you have ever owned a gas grill before, you already know how this unit works (at least more or less.).

If on the other hand, you come from the world of charcoal grilling you will be pleased to find that you won’t need to spend thirty minutes waiting for this grill to get hot.

Igniting the three, stainless steel burners of the Weber Genesis 2 is as simple as turning the nob of the “easy igniters.”

The easy ignitors do essentially what their name suggests they would: they make lighting the grill as quick and easy a process as possible.

From there it is up to you to decide how to make the most of the 513 square inches of cooking space, or the 156 Square inches of tuck-away warming racks overhead.

The unit has a few other features like flavorizer bars, and convenient tool hooks to make using the grill as easy as possible.

It also features a small, stainless steel prep space that will give you a little bit of room to prepare food before you place it on the grill.

When recommending a grill, I always tell others to make sure it has this prep space as it is really, really helpful.

Regardless of your experience level you should not have any trouble using this grill.

Is the Weber Genesis Durable?

Good question.

Since grills are exposed to the elements you definitely want to pick up a model that is up to the task of handling inclement weather exposure.

Fortunately, in the case of the Weber Genesis that is exactly what you are getting.

This grill is made up of durable stainless steel that should have no trouble standing up to any typical circumstance.

With proper care and maintenance, the Weber Genesis 2 should enjoy a long life expectancy.

It also doesn’t hurt that this grill comes with a pretty generous warranty so if something does go wrong you may not have to pay for it.

Pros and Cons

Pros:

  • Easy to ignite
  • Ample cooking space
  • Three high-end burners
  • Warming racks
  • Prep space
  • Warranty

Cons:

  • The Weber Genesis is fairly expensive compared to other similar products which may eliminate it as a buying option for shoppers on a tighter budget.
  • There are also no doors on the bottom of the grill by the grease rack, which can be a problem depending on where you live. In a wooded area, the exposed grease rack may very well attract animal visitors which you probably do not want.

Before You Buy

With this grill, the biggest question that you will need to ask yourself before making your ultimate decision is whether or not it is worth the money.

The features and function of this grill are both sound, but at the end of the day it is still pretty pricy.

In the cons section I mentioned the lack of doors as a drawback to this grill, and that is true, but it probably won’t make or break your buying decision.

Price might, so inventory your needs, and decide whether or not you are willing to spend a little bit extra money to get a great grill.

To Buy or Not to Buy?

That is the question, isn’t it?

Grilling is so subjective that it is difficult to make a definitive recommendation for everyone.

Instead, I can only say this: the features on this grill are very choice.

The function of the unit itself is also more than adequate.

The burners ignite easily, the grating is simple to clean, and the cooking surface gets plenty hot, so you don’t need to worry about the inconsistencies that accompany lower end gas grills.

Price and personal preference are ultimately going to be the deciding factors here.

If you like a more rugged grilling experience with open flames that you created yourself, you might be better off with a charcoal grill.

The same is true if you are trying to save money.

However, if you want a deluxe grill, and can accept that getting one will require paying a deluxe price than this is definitely the product for you.

My thoughts are that once you have purchased this grill and used it a few times, you will be very glad that it is yours.
