There is really no overstating how great bacon is, right?
But even those of us that don’t spend all that much time worrying about the calorie count of our food know that too much bacon isn’t exactly going to add years to your life.
What if you could make bacon a little bit easier, and a little bit more healthy?
That is the promise of the “Bacon Boss,” and today we will be taking a close look at this cool product to determine if it is worth your time and most especially your hard earned money.
I’m all about saving and simplifying things, so all these As Seen on TV products absolutely amaze me, whether they work or not.
If the product doesn’t work, at least we got entertained by some overly exaggerated fake actor pretending they loved the product, right?
Now when it comes to buying something, I want to know if it works and if it is even worth investing in, so that’s what I wanted to know before I put any money into this product.
Will this be what it’s cut out to be or will it be another As Seen on TV flop?
Let’s dig a little deeper and see if this thing does what it’s supposed to do.

Product Overview
The premise of this gadget is essentially that it is designed to allow you to cook delicious bacon without adding extra fat and oil.
It accomplished this by allowing you to crisp your bacon in the oven or microwave, rather than on the stove top, which didn’t sound safe at first, but hey, there’s a first for everything.
Who This is For
So, who is this nifty product for? Anyone that loves bacon but is still trying to keep things at least relatively heart healthy.
It’s also really easy to use and to clean, so if cooking is not your forte you should still have no trouble whipping up your favorite side dish/snack.
Bacon tastes awesome and everyone loves to eat it but I’m sure no one likes to deal with the grease after you’re done cooking it.
So yes, this is definitely great for all of us that eat bacon.
How It Works (Instructions)
The way that the Bacon Boss works is actually pretty simple.
To start, you simple spread your desired amount of bacon (or whatever can fit) out on the surface of the pan.
If you prefer to season your meat you can of course do so (Bacon Boss recommends adding pepper, or brown sugar to give it a nice spiced or caramelized taste, but feel free to get creative).
Once you have your bacon the way that you like it, it’s time to cook it.
Once the bacon is dispersed on the pan, you will fasten the pressure cooker lid by placing it on top of the pan and then cranking the handle 180 degrees to make sure that the bacon is perfectly flat.
After that all that is left is for you to cook it!
The instructions for this device encourage that you set the timer on your microwave to a minute for every strip of bacon that you are cooking, and if your food is not done at that point, add an additional thirty seconds, and continue doing so until fully cooked.
1 bacon = 1 minute
Bacon Boss also notes that these cook times are based on the capabilities of a 1100 watt microwave, so my little 700 watt will definitely need more time.
You can also use your Bacon Boss in the oven with a cook temperature of 350 degrees. While this pan is a nonstick surface, they do recommend that you use a little bit of cooking spray if you intend to use it in the oven.
If you decide to use the Bacon Boss in the oven, you are going to be looking at a cook time of about 35 minutes, so it is definitely a lengthier cook than the microwave, but I at least have always found that the oven gives a better cook than microwaves in most cases.
Is the Bacon Boss Durable?
Good question, right?
There are some plastic components to this kitchen gadget, after all, and it does seem to get exposed to a lot of heat.
The answer is that for the most part, this gadget is pretty durable or at least it is durable when it is performing the way that it should.
Personally, I like the Bacon Boss a lot, but when I saw how it was built I did grow a little bit skeptical as to how well it would withstand excessive heat, especially in the oven.
Turns out I was right to be a little bit skeptical.
I’ll stress again that the standard issued Bacon Boss is going to do just fine in the oven and the microwave.
However, it does appear that some defective models will start smoking or even melting after extensive use, so be on the lookout for that if you plan on being the next “bacon boss”.
Kind of a bummer, right?
You definitely don’t want your Bacon Boss to start melting but the good news is that you should not expect to encounter that issue.
From everything that I have seen this is a good, reliable product that should be able to well withstand regular use. Just make sure that you follow the instructions and you should not encounter any problems.
The Price
The list price for this unit is $19.99, but I have actually seen it priced lower on Amazon so if I were you I would look there and hope that you might catch it while it is on sale.

Before You Buy
Remember that this is something of a novelty item in that it is used to do only one thing, which is cook bacon.
That being the case, you aren’t investing in something that is going to change the way that you live.
This device is made to cook crispy bacon in a way that is slightly healthier than the traditional method and that is exactly what it does.
If you want something that you will use every day, consider investing in a cool pot or pan.
If you want a fun novelty kitchen gadget, this is a great product to consider.
To Buy or Not to Buy
Although this is not one of my more favorite As Seen on TV products, it does what it is supposed to do and it is beyond affordable.
Sometimes things just need to be simple and functional and that is exactly what the Bacon Boss is.
The Bacon Boss is not going to change the way that you live but it will serve as a fun little way to spice up breakfast.
Unless you’re like me that can eat bacon at any time of the day.
