My other half mentioned that she wanted to get on this Keto diet and like always, I had to give her my two cents that I’m sure she never likes hearing.
From what started as a simple comment, turned into a discussion and well, some research of course and that ultimately to me doing this review on yet another diet plan.
So if you’re wondering if this Keto diet actually works or if you should try it, my two cents will give you a full breakdown as to why I think it does work and why I also think it’s a waste of time.
The conversation we had started with her interest in a network marketing business called It Works, which you have probably heard of before.
We got some wraps (because that was what they sold at the time) and have now added many other products to their catalog.
In a nutshell, these wraps are supposed to shrink whatever part of your body that needs to be shrank, resulting in you looking a lot slimmer.
No actual weight is lost but you at least have the look of someone who did lose some weight.
Come to find out that these wraps “work”, but only temporarily.
Being that this main product was what they sold to begin with, how in the world can I trust a company that pretty much sold a lie?
Well now they have some Keto coffee, and I don’t know what else, but it started my research into this whole Keto thing.
I have my opinion on things but of course she never takes my word for it, so I had to do my research just to show her what I thought and how others would see it the same way I did.
Not a fan of hype and that is all I heard when she mentioned it to me.
Will this diet actually work or is this some kind of fad that will eventually die down just like the hundreds of other diet plans that used to be popular?
Just like everyone and their mothers, I have my personal opinion that I’m sure some of you might agree with, while others might think otherwise.
Whatever the case may be, let me share my thoughts on something that I think is just hype.
First, What in the World is a Keto Diet?
The term comes from the word ketogenic, which was actually created many, many moons ago.
We’re talking 1920!
It is a diet that consists of high fats and low carbs and sugar.
Now if you were to ask me, I think this would be a no-brainer type of diet, but that’s just me.
Eat all the bacon you want but don’t expect to compliment it with some starch and don’t e thinking that you’re going to have that desert after either.
So for something to be around since the 1920’s and only be in now has me asking…who is promoting this stuff?
The Kardashians?
Some Dr. that found some crazy breakthrough fruit that will have you skinny by tomorrow?
You see guys, these diets are really nothing but a base that you can use to lose weight by keeping you on track and accountable for what your body consumes.
Now with fads and phases come the “professional” advice.
“Do this, not that”
“This is good for you but now it’s bad for you”
One day carbs are great and then the next they are talked down upon by some Doctor that makes everyone believe what they have to say simply because they have some product to promote.
People can not make up their mind and not many can understand the real reasoning behind all the marketing either.
For me, I’m into the way the world works, so I completely understand marketing and the nonsense behind it and I never give into anything without putting some serious thought and doing my research.
You see, here’s the thing…
When you stop consuming something, your body is going to react in a way that usually results with you losing weight.
Take this away from your diet and of course something is going to happen.
Anyone’s immediate reaction is, “wow, that actually works!”.
Come on now, let’s try to be a little smarter here because it simply is not magic but rather common sense.
So Does the Keto Diet Work?
My short answer: Anything can work.
The long answer: Yes but…
Remember the Atkins diet or any other diet that was around even in the 90’s?
Well, they are no different with this Keto diet.
Everything that you get with a diet is going to come with its pros and cons but for the most part, they will all work to a certain extent.
If you are going to have a structure and layout of what you need to do, then any diet will work.
The problem is that most of them are temporary and will have you ballooning back into the body you never wanted the minute you stop.
However, I think the idea of ridding yourself from carbs is not a good idea as it is something your body simply needs, especially if you are doing a lot of physical activity.
I’m not saying go out there and eat all the carbs you want but consume enough to have you with energy that you can use to take you through the day.
I can eat bacon all day but is that the healthiest way to go?
Probably not.
The Real Diet
Let me just remind you that I am not a doctor and know nothing about the scientific nonsense that most people like to use but I do know a thing or two about this thing called life.
Being a former soldier, you can say that I know a thing or two about diets and physical activity.
So if you are looking to lose weight and feel great, want to know what I always recommend?
Exercise and the word moderation.
If you can eat the right foods and portion them, you will lose weight and keep the energy your body needs.
Now throw in some exercise and you have the recipe for someone’s #goals.
What needs to be done with the eating and exercising is to get on some type of schedule and/or program like Insanity or something that best suits your level of physical capabilities.
Being held responsible for your own health is a great way to fail miserably and that is really all you need to lose weight and live a healthier lifestyle.
If you can mange things then you can lose weight with or without the Keto diet.
The gym isn’t necessary either as there are many things that can give you a workout without you even knowing it.
You see that bathtub that you step into every single day?
It might need a little scrubbing.
Now if that doesn’t give you a workout, then high five.
But go and wash the car or something as I’m sure you can find some natural forms of exercise if you’re a busy body like me.
So Should You Start the Keto Diet?
Sure, why not.
It is the most recent hype and all the cool kids are doing it.
Just understand that this whole thing is nothing but a phase.
I mean, do you really think eating a lot of fats over a long period of time is the best way to do things?
Maybe a way to get you to alter your habits but I don’t see this as a long term thing.
You can thank the Kardashians and other social media hipsters for this stuff.
Now just because so and so is doing something then of course millions of others are going to jump on the band wagon and that does not mean you have to be one of them.
For me, I’m more of a realist and one that does things because I want to do things.
Do I want to eat bacon?
Of course I do but just not all the time.
Would I do the Keto diet?
Probably not.
